Review: Roadblock for iPhone and iPad

Roadblock is a port to iPhone and iPad of the physical puzzle by the same name.
This is basically a classic put-together puzzle with tromino and tetromino pieces, but with an additional constraint: every piece contains a police car, and they need to placed in such a way that they block all escape routes for the red car.
When you put together the correct solution, you get a nice animation of all policemen stepping out of their cars, pointing their guns at the red car.
You get a few levels for free, and can unlock all the remaining levels with a single in-app purchase.

Apart from the first 10 levels which act as tutorial, all the levels are played on a 6x6 board with the same six pieces; the only thing that changes is the position of the buildings. It's interesting how much this affects the difficulty.
Every level has a single solution, but as difficulty progresses, there tend to be more and more wrong ways to put all the pieces on the board, without blocking the red car.
Logic can help a bit in finding the solution, but this is mostly a matter of trying the various combinations until you find the correct one.

Roadblock was designed by Raf Peeters, a Belgian inventor who has created many other puzzles. His site is full of fascinating information about how he designed his games.

Another one of Peeter's puzzles, Titanic, has already been ported to iPhone. I think we can expect to see more in the future, because the SmartGames site already allows to play them online. They are implemented in HTML5 so they work on iPhone and iPad too.
